This used to be my pottery page. The place where I would share pottery workshops to help others connect with their creativity, tap into their intuition, flow and playfulness, all whilst being in community with a group of women.
I am still passionate about this, but I’m evolving how I work to really embrace helping others to reconnect to the creative space within them. I’m changing this page to be ‘the creatrix collective’ which will be more of a women’s circle where we come together to make. I want to use all of my artistic gifts and share that of others with you, too. All with the emphasis on mindfulness, slowing down and connecting to your inner creatrix.
Creating has always been my way of self expression and self soothing. It takes me into a meditative state where I am focused on channelling my energy and creations into the world. I was fortunate to have a very creative family, I would spend weekends with rooms full of artists, photographers, jewellers, installation artists and wood turners, visiting my aunts exhibitions, watching my Grandma sew clothes, developing photos with my Dad or listening to poetry from my Mother.
As a young child, I would save my pocket money to buy clay from the early learning centre. Enchanted by its tactility and earthiness, I joined a predominantly adults Saturday class as a child to learn the ways of clay. I studied for a BTEC in art and textiles and continued to make clothing before gaining a BA (hons) in Footwear Design and working as a shoe designer for a decade and later a shoemaker. There was a constant feeling of emptiness and creative stagnation as a designer, leaving me unfulfilled and wanting more. I returned to pottery five years ago and trained myself to reconnect with my creative energy. I had to give myself permission to explore and express myself in different ways, and reminded myself that making doesn’t always need an end purpose. It was in this process that I started to see how important it is to make for the sake of it. We all have creativity inside of us, an energy waiting to burst or be gently tamed out and shared with the world.
Making for the fun of it has heaps of benefits, it's proven to help with stress and anxiety, improves problem solving skills and self esteem and the bonus is, it's an absolute joy!
So, what can you expect? Some pottery workshops will remain. I'm thinking altars, goddesses and talisman...I'll also be drawing on my design and textiles skills to introduce print and stitchwork and I'm planning to host other wonderful creatrix's to share their gifts.
If you want to know when the circle begins sign up to the newsletter below. I'll drop you a message.
